Six-time FIFA Women’s Player of the Year, Marta Vieira da Silva, is set to marry her partner and Orlando Pride teammate, Carrie Lawrence, following their recent engagement.
The Brazilian football legend and Lawrence, who have been dating since 2022, got engaged during a romantic picnic where Marta proposed. The couple shared the joyful news on Instagram, posting a series of photos, including one of Marta placing an engagement ring on Carrie’s finger.
Marta, 38, recently represented Brazil at the Olympics, where despite her efforts, the team fell short in the final, securing a silver medal after losing to the United States. During the tournament, Carrie, 27, traveled to France to support Marta and the Brazilian women’s team. Although Carrie played for the US U19 team, she has not been capped by the senior national team.
In April, Marta announced her retirement from international football, stating that the Olympics would be her final tournament. “There will be no more Marta from 2025 in the national team as an athlete,” she shared, expressing optimism about the future of Brazil’s young athletes.
Marta is expected to rejoin Orlando Pride later this month after an extended break following her Olympic participation.
