Despite being held to a 1-1 draw at home by Algerian side JS Kabylie on Saturday night, Tunisian team Esperance reached the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League.
The match, played at the Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi, saw the home side dominate the second leg, advancing 2-1 on aggregate after their narrow win in Rades.
Esperance’s 1-0 first-leg victory was enough to see them through, and Mohamed Ben Romdhane was the hero of the match, scoring the opener just four minutes after the break.
Adem Redjem equalized for Kabylie with five minutes remaining, but the visitors were unable to find the crucial goal that would have seen them through.
Esperance will now face Egyptian giants and record title holders Al Ahly in the semi-finals, with the first leg scheduled to take place in Tunis in early May, and the return clash in Cairo a week later.
