Medeama SC’s head coach, Augustine Evans Adotey, is determined to shore up his team’s defense and secure a clean sheet as they face Young Africans at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Friday.
The Ghanaian champions are set to host the Tanzanian giants in their third Group D match of the 2023/24 CAF Champions League.
Acknowledging recent defensive challenges in conceding goals, Adotey expressed his commitment to addressing the issue at a pre-game press conference. He emphasized the importance of defensive solidity in achieving positive results.
“Whether we concede or don’t concede, we’ll give off our best. We’ve been conceding in recent games,” Adotey stated.
Reflecting on recent matches, including encounters with Berekum Chelsea, Asante Kotoko, Al Ahly, and CR Belouizdad, the coach highlighted the need for defensive improvement.
“I conceded a goal in my own backyard against Berekum Chelsea, the same against Asante Kotoko, against Al Ahly and then CR Belouizdad. So far, we’ve worked on creating depth in defence in making sure we don’t concede this time around”
Adotey outlined the team’s efforts to reinforce their defense and avoid conceding goals in the upcoming clash with Young Africans.
“Working on defensive, you still have to think forward. We want to win the game, and so as I’m saying, we’re facing a good side, I will not underrate my opposition,” he added, expressing the team’s dual focus on defensive resilience and attacking prowess.
