Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has revealed that his side will adopt a calculated strategy to frustrate Nigerian side Kwara United in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round clash.

The Porcupine Warriors secured a dramatic 4-3 victory in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, with Albert Amoah netting twice, while Emmanuel Antwi and Joseph Ablorh also got on the scoresheet for the Ghanaian side. Despite the win, Kotoko conceded three goals, setting up a tense decider in Nigeria.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Zito commended his team’s fighting spirit but stressed the need for a more disciplined approach in the return fixture at the M.K.O. Abiola International Stadium in Abuja.

“At the end of the day, nobody thought we could even score two or three goals,” Zito said. “What makes me a little happy is that we won by four goals to three. Now I will plan how to go there and try to do what they came here to do.”

Kotoko will need at least a draw in Nigeria to advance, but Zito is determined to see his side not only defend better but also score in order to unsettle the hosts in front of their fans.

The winner of the two-legged tie will face Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club in the next round of the Confederation Cup qualifiers.
