The CAF Executive Committee on Friday, July 7, 2023 convened their meeting at the newly constructed headquarters of the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF) in Rabat.
Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the President of CAF, commended the FRMF and Brother Fouzi Lekjaa for their exceptional headquarters. He also expressed gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Government, and the people of Morocco.
The impressive headquarters, along with the world-class stadiums and football infrastructure in Morocco, serve as remarkable examples of the achievements that can be realized through partnerships between African governments and national football associations.
The Executive Committee made several appointments to the CAF Referees’ Committee:
- Mr. Hugues Alain Adjoyi from Benin was appointed as the President.
- Mr. Victor Gomes from South Africa was appointed as the Vice-President.
- Other committee members include:
- Mrs. Fatou Gaye from Senegal
- Mr. Dombouya Aboubacar from Guinea
- Mr. Ali Mohammed Ahmed from Somalia
- Mrs. Tesfanesh Woreta from Ethiopia
- Mr. Djamel Haimoudi from Algeria
- Mr. Hadqa Yahya from Morocco
- Mr. Olivier Safari Kabene from the Democratic Republic of Congo
- Mr. Louzaya René Daniel from Congo
- Mr. Inacio Candido from Angola
- Mrs. Gladys Lengwe from Zambia
- Mr. Aminu Shantali Shuaibu from Nigeria
President Motsepe emphasized the importance of integrity, independence, and credibility for referees, match commissioners, and VAR operators. He expressed confidence that the newly appointed members of the CAF Referees’ Committee would contribute to the growth and global competitiveness of football in Africa.
“The integrity, independence and credibility of referees, match commissioners and VAR operators is crucial for the respect and growth of African football and we are confident that the newly appointed CAF Referees’ Committee members will contribute towards the growth and global competitiveness of football in Africa.”
Additionally, the Executive Committee approved the cancellation of the additional second preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
As a result, the 16 winning clubs from the second preliminary round will advance to the group stage of both the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup for the 2023-2024 season.
