Carlos Queiroz is expected to announce Ghana’s provisional squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup later this week as preparations for the tournament gather momentum.
The Ghana national football team will compete at the expanded World Cup hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with Ghana drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
Under FIFA regulations, all 48 qualified nations are required to submit provisional squad lists before finalising their official tournament selections.
Queiroz, who took charge on a short-term basis following Otto Addo’s departure, is expected to present his initial squad selection in the coming days before trimming it down to a final 26-man list by June 1.
The Portuguese tactician faces the task of assembling a competitive squad capable of improving Ghana’s fortunes on the global stage.
As part of their preparation, the Black Stars will face Mexico national football team in a friendly match later this month before concluding their build-up against Wales national football team on June 2.
Ghana will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before taking on England on June 23 in Boston. Their final group match will be against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
This will mark Ghana’s fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, having previously competed in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022.
Their best performance remains the 2010 tournament in South Africa, where they reached the quarter-finals, narrowly missing out on a historic semi-final berth.
After back-to-back group-stage exits in 2014 and 2022, the Black Stars head into the 2026 edition determined to make a stronger impact on the world stage.
