A member of Asante Kotoko’s supporters’ communication team, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, has tragically been stabbed to death by unidentified assailants during Kotoko’s Ghana Premier League clash against Nsoatreman FC at the Nana Konamansah Park in Nsoatre.
The shocking incident occurred during the Matchweek 19 fixture on February 3, 2025. According to an official statement from Asante Kotoko, Nana Pooley was attacked during an altercation in the second half of the game. He sustained multiple stab wounds and was rushed to the Sunyani Regional Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life, but he succumbed to his injuries.
Nana Pooley had recently wedded his long-time girlfriend in December 2024, making the tragedy even more devastating for his family and loved ones.
Asante Kotoko SC has strongly condemned the violence that marred the match, stating that their team faced hostility from the moment they arrived at the stadium. The club reported multiple instances of missiles being thrown at their bench, creating a hazardous environment for players and officials. The unrest escalated further when Kotoko’s Head of Media suffered a serious ear injury after being struck by an object.
The club has extended its condolences to Nana Pooley’s family and called for immediate action against hooliganism in football. Authorities are expected to launch a thorough investigation to bring those responsible to justice and prevent further violence in the Ghana Premier League.
