Following a unanimous decision during the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) 29th Ordinary Session of Congress, AshantiGold Sporting Club has been suspended from Ghana football with immediate effect.
During the Congress held at the Great Hall of KNUST, delegates voted on the decision, with 67 in favor of the suspension and 17 against it.
The suspension comes as a result of AshantiGold’s association with banned officials, Kwaku Frimpong and Emmanuel Frimpong, which constitutes a serious violation of both the GFA Statutes and the FIFA Statutes. The GFA Disciplinary Committee had previously banned Kwaku Frimpong for 10 years and Emmanuel Frimpong for 8 years due to their involvement in match manipulations.
The decisions of the Disciplinary Committee were upheld by the GFA Appeals Committee, and the banned officials did not appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) within the required time frame.
Despite the bans, AshantiGold SC continued to engage and associate with the two officials, which violated various articles of the GFA Statutes and FIFA Statutes.
While 22 players from AshantiGold SC have filed appeals and obtained temporary measures from CAS, allowing them to participate in GFA and international competitions until their cases are resolved, the club itself has been suspended.
As a result of the suspension, AshantiGold SC will lose all membership rights and will not be able to participate in any football competitions, including the Ashanti Regional Football Association Division Two League.
In accordance with the GFA and FIFA Statutes, all individuals and entities involved in football are prohibited from engaging in any football-related activities with the suspended AshantiGold SC and the banned officials.
