Black Stars goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi has revealed how he deals with criticism, insisting that public opinion has never influenced the way he approaches his responsibilities on the pitch.
Speaking on Sporty FM’s Sporty Breakfast on Monday morning, the Ghana international admitted that criticism is an unavoidable part of professional football but stressed that it does not distract him from his primary objective as a goalkeeper.
“Criticism is part of the game, but it doesn’t really change anything about my game. As a goalkeeper, your priority is to save goals,” Ati Zigi said.
The FC St. Gallen shot-stopper explained that he has learned to accept scrutiny as part of representing both club and country, especially when playing for the Black Stars, where expectations are always high.
Rather than allowing outside opinions to affect his confidence or decision-making, Ati Zigi remains focused on delivering consistent performances whenever he steps onto the field.
His comments reflect the mentality that has helped him establish himself as one of Ghana’s most reliable goalkeepers in recent years, earning the trust of successive Black Stars coaches through his composure, concentration and shot-stopping ability.
The goalkeeper’s remarks come at a time when performances of the national team continue to attract widespread debate following Ghana’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Despite the criticism that often accompanies life as a national team goalkeeper, Ati Zigi insists he remains committed to his role and understands that the demands of the position require resilience and mental strength.
With the Black Stars preparing for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers later this year, the experienced goalkeeper will be looking to continue his impressive form and maintain his place as Ghana’s first-choice shot-stopper.
