Ghanaian midfielder David Abagna played a starring role as APOEL secured a dominant 6-1 win over Omonia 29th May in the Round of 16 of the Cyprus Cup on Thursday evening.
The former Real Tamale United star capped a brilliant performance with a well-taken goal.
APOEL made their intentions clear from the start, opening the scoring in the 16th minute through Anastasios Donis. Stefan Drazic doubled the lead ten minutes later before Konstantinos Galanopoulos added a third, leaving the hosts in full control.
Abagna added his name to the scoresheet just before halftime, calmly slotting home to give APOEL a commanding 4-0 advantage heading into the break. His contribution highlighted an impressive display in midfield.
Omonia 29th May managed to pull one back in the second half through Jay Enem, but their hopes of a comeback were short-lived. Pieros Sotiriou struck twice late in the game to complete the emphatic victory for APOEL.
With this win, APOEL advanced to the quarter-finals of the Cyprus Cup. Abagna, who has been in fine form this season, continues to make a strong impression in his debut campaign and will be determined to help his team push for silverware.
