Ghanaian forward Ernest Nuamah is on the verge of fulfilling his dream of playing in England, with Everton emerging as his most likely destination in the January transfer window.
The 21-year-old is reportedly in talks with the Premier League side as the Toffees seek reinforcements for the second half of the season.
Although negotiations were initially delayed due to a managerial change at Everton, discussions have resumed, and the move is gaining momentum.
Nuamah had previously been linked with a transfer to England during the summer window, but a potential move to Fulham fell through on deadline day. Fulham, however, remains interested and could rival Everton for his signature.
Nuamah is expected to be the first signing under Everton’s new owners, The Friedkin Group, as they aim to bolster the squad. The Ghanaian winger has had a challenging season in France, scoring just one goal in 18 appearances across all competitions under Olympique Lyonnais manager Pierre Sage.
Lyon’s financial troubles, which have resulted in provisional relegation due to administrative sanctions, have forced the club to consider offloading players to avoid further penalties. Nuamah is reportedly among those set to leave in January, following Nigerian striker Gift Orban, who departed earlier in the window.
Everton, who have struggled this season, recently parted ways with manager Sean Dyche. Former boss David Moyes, who previously coached Ghana’s Mohammed Kudus, is expected to return and lead the club’s efforts to rebuild and avoid relegation.
