Everton is on the verge of securing Ghanaian winger Ernest Nuamah from Olympique Lyon in a deal reportedly worth around €20 million, according to RMC Sport. Talks between the Premier League side and the 21-year-old regarding personal terms are ongoing, but all indications suggest an agreement is imminent.
Nuamah joined Lyon in August 2023 from Molenbeek, a club also owned by John Textor. Initially signed on loan, Lyon exercised a purchase option for €28.5 million. However, the winger has struggled to deliver on his promise, managing just four goals in 50 appearances for the French side, including a Europa League strike against Eintracht Frankfurt this season.
Lyon’s financial struggles, worsened by administrative sanctions from the DNCG, have forced the club to part ways with several key players. In addition to Nuamah’s expected departure, the Ligue 1 outfit recently sold academy product Maxence Caqueret to Serie A side Como for €15 million.
Nuamah’s potential move to Everton is seen as a chance to reignite his career in the competitive environment of the Premier League. Known for his pace and flair, the Ghanaian international could provide the Toffees with much-needed attacking reinforcement.
This transfer comes as Lyon undergoes significant changes, including Wilfried Zaha’s departure. Zaha’s loan from Galatasaray was terminated to facilitate his move to MLS side Charlotte FC, signaling a broader reshuffle within the club.
