Former AshantiGold SC and RTU midfielder David Abagna found the back of the net to help APOEL Nicosia secure a hard-fought 2-1 win over ACF Fiorentina in their UEFA Conference League clash at the GSP Stadium on Thursday.
The 26-year-old, who joined APOEL in the summer, continued his impressive form in Europe with another standout performance. Abagna, who has been thriving at the Cypriot club, played the full 90 minutes and earned a solid 7.5 rating on Sofascore for his efforts.
Greek international Anastasios Donis opened the scoring for APOEL in the 37th minute, and just before halftime, Abagna doubled their advantage with a superb finish to make it 2-0.
However, Fiorentina responded in the 74th minute through Ivorian forward Jonathan Ikoné, pulling one back for the visitors. Despite their late pressure, APOEL held firm to claim all three points.
Although Abagna has been in excellent form this season, he was notably absent from the Black Stars squad, but he remains focused on earning more playing time in the future.
Currently sitting in 17th place in the Conference League standings with four points, APOEL Nicosia will travel to Molde FK in their next match.
