Djamel Belmadi resigns as head coach of Algeria after abysmal AFCON campaign in Ivory Coast

47-year-old Algeria head coach, Djamel Belmadi has resigned from his post as the head coach of the Desert Foxes.

It is not a surprise to see Belmadi resign even though he had the backing of some of the Algerian FA authorities.

The former Al Duhail manager has coached the Algerian national team since 2018. During his six-year spell, he won Algeria the 2019 AFCON in an emphatic fashion by brushing almost every opposition aside.

The last two AFCON tournaments have been catastrophic for the Fennec Foxes as they have exited the group stages since winning the AFCON.

Algeria has been performing greatly in qualifiers and friendly games but has messed up in the last two major competitions.

Djamel Belmadi’s Fennec Foxes were shocked by the tiny Mauritania by losing 1-0 in a must-win game to progress to the knockout stage.
