African football legend George Weah – now President of Liberia – has advised Liverpool Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane not to be obsessed with winning the Ballon d’Or.
Weah remains the only African player to win the global soccer accolade given by France Football but he wants the Egyptian and the Senegalese to concentrate on making their game better.
“They shouldn’t obsess over the Ballon d’Or, rather they should focus on their performances and try to improve more,” the former Milan striker told Canal+.
“[Salah and Mane should not] put unnecessary pressure on themselves. I always worked hard to get my family out of poverty, that’s how I was awarded the Ballon d’Or.”
“They should not put unnecessary pressure on themselves” Weah admonished.
