Salifu Ibrahim’s future at Accra Hearts of Oak hangs in the balance as the midfielder edges closer to a potential departure at the conclusion of the current season.
Constantly surrounded by transfer speculation, the 23-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Accra giants, where he has been a mainstay since 2021 after joining from former GPL side Eleven Wonders.
With just two months remaining on his contract, Salifu’s outstanding performances have caught the attention of several clubs, fueling rumors of an imminent exit.
In an interview with Kumasi FM, his agent Benedict Asiedu revealed that while talks of contract renewal commenced earlier, they were put on hold amidst changes in management at Hearts of Oak. Asiedu emphasized that the ball is now in Hearts of Oak’s court, indicating that Salifu is open to extending his stay if the necessary steps are taken.
“Talks about renewing his contract began quite a long time ago with Alhaji Akambi but we stopped following the change of management. I don’t know whether they are looking for new alternative”
However, Asiedu made it clear that they won’t hesitate to explore other options if the club fails to act promptly. He stressed, “The player is working but you let the contract expire if you don’t like him. Don’t blame me if Salifu doesn’t renew his contract with Hearts of Oak. I can’t take him away as free agent. We are still waiting for them but I won’t extend the contract if they wait for it to expire,” he said.
Despite battling injuries, Salifu has been a standout performer for Hearts of Oak, earning accolades such as the best player of the 2020/21 GPL season.
With his skill set and form, Salifu Ibrahim is poised to attract significant interest from potential suitors should Hearts of Oak fail to secure his long-term commitment beyond June.
