Josh Kofi Acheampong, a teenager born in England but of Ghanaian descent, has made a return to Chelsea Football Club.
With experience as a central defender, a full-back and at wing-back, he recently signed a scholarship deal with the club in preparation for the upcoming season.
This week, Acheampong was among 16 players who gathered at Stamford Bridge, the club’s training center, to finalize their contracts. Almost all of the new scholars, except for three, have previous experience playing in the youth team.
Last season, under the guidance of Ed Brand, the team finished eighth, reached the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup, and emerged as winners of the Under-18 Premier League Cup by defeating Fulham at Craven Cottage. Additionally, the Under-16 age group claimed victory in the Premier League national finals.
Acheampong has been associated with Chelsea since he joined their development center program at the age of eight. He possesses the ability to play in various positions along the defensive line.
In terms of international experience, Josh has represented England at both the Under-16 and Under-17 levels, earning a total of nine caps.
It is a requirement for all players in their Under-17 year to start the season with a scholarship arrangement before being eligible to sign their first professional football contract, which can take place on or after their 17th birthday.
