FC Nordsjaelland manager, Jens Fønsskov Olsen, has highlighted the crucial role legendary Ghanaian footballer Michael Essien plays at the Danish club.
Since retiring from professional football, the former Chelsea star has been serving as an individual talent coach at Nordsjaelland, helping to groom young players for the first team.
Jens Olsen praised Essien’s attention to detail and emphasized how his vast experience benefits the club’s developing talents. “First of all, it has been great meeting Michael Essien. He has a great personality and a lot of charisma, and of course, he is here to support the young guys. He’s experienced football on his own, both physically and mentally, working and playing in different cultures, so they can learn a lot from him,” Olsen told Joy Sports.
Essien’s role goes beyond just coaching on the pitch. Olsen explained, “He has a role that’s just behind the scenes. He’s very good at focusing on the small details, preparing the players in our style of play, and drawing from his experience at the highest level. He provides valuable individual feedback, whether it’s through playing or reviewing clips.”
Essien’s illustrious career saw him win multiple trophies with Chelsea and represent Ghana 59 times, making his contributions at Nordsjaelland invaluable for the club’s young talents.
