Richmond Osei, the Chief Executive Officer of Division One League team Unity FC, has responded to allegations made by the team manager and captain that he sold 15 pairs of soccer boots provided by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
For the 2022/23 season, each of the 18 Premier League clubs and 48 Division One League teams received 30 pairs of brand-new football boots free of charge. While the GFA handed over the boots to the clubs, they were intended for the registered players.
However, players of Unity FC threatened to boycott the remaining matches of the 2022/23 Division One League Zone 1B because they claim the CEO refused to give them all 30 pairs of boots. Despite these accusations from his own management team member, Osei denies selling the boots and explained the situation on Kumasi-based Fox FM on Monday.
He stated, “I have not sold the boots. My car broke down last weekend, and that is why I was not able to send all the boots to them. I sent them 15 pairs, but I could not send them the rest of the boots because of my faulty car.”
Osei also added, “Even if I have sold the boots, the club is mine, and they cannot tell me what to do. They do not care about my broken car, but they are rather talking about the boots. What do they even need the boots for? Check the table; they are bottom with negative six points, so what do they even need the boots for?”
