Andre Ayew has shared an emotional message to Olympique Marseille fans after receiving a warm reception during Le Havre’s league match at the Stade Vélodrome. The Ghanaian veteran returned to his boyhood club for the first time this season, hoping to help his struggling team secure a positive result.
Despite Ayew’s efforts, Le Havre fell to a dominant Marseille side. The 33-year-old, however, managed to score against his former club but refrained from celebrating out of respect. His gesture and performance earned him a standing ovation from the Marseille fans as he was substituted in the 88th minute.
After the game, Ayew took to social media to express his gratitude for the welcome he received. “Evening full of emotions and reunions, thanks to the people of Marseille for the welcome and this moment that will stay in my heart. I will never forget it,” he posted.
Although touched by the reception, Ayew also expressed disappointment with the loss and reassured Le Havre supporters of the team’s determination to fight for survival in Ligue 1. “Not easy to lose the first game of the year. Thank you to the supporters who would have been there with us. We’re not going to give up and fight. The marathon continues, Le Havre,” he added.
The experienced midfielder remains a key figure for Le Havre as they look to turn their fortunes around and climb out of the relegation zone.
