Former Bayern Munich and Fulham coach Wolfgang Felix Magath has expressed a keen interest in the vacant Black Stars coaching position following the dismissal of Chris Hughton, Sportsworldghana.com exclusively reports.
The sacking of Hughton came in the wake of Ghana’s disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where they exited at the group stage in Cote d’Ivoire. Magath, known for his success in both playing and coaching, meets the criteria set by the Ghana Football Association for the new coach, emphasizing a proven winning record and extensive experience.
“Felix Magath has a great interest in the Ghana national team,” stated his agent Vukoja Josip in an exclusive conversation.
With a remarkable career that includes Bundesliga titles and DFB-Pokal triumphs as both player and coach, Magath brings a wealth of experience.
The 70-year-old German’s coaching achievements, notably with Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg, align with the standards sought by the Ghana FA for a new head coach.
The Ghana FA has set a three-week deadline for the search committee to find Hughton’s replacement, and Magath emerges as a strong contender with a track record of success.
Magath’s no-nonsense coaching style and proven ability to elevate teams could provide the fresh start the Black Stars need.
Magath has managed several clubs, predominantly German, including Hamburg SV, Nurnburg, Werder Bremen, Frankfurt, VFB Stuggart, VFL Wolfsburg, Schalke O4, Fulham and most recently, Hertha BSC and he can boast of having coached Bayern Munich for three years, winning two Bundesliga titles and two DFB-Pokal (German Cups).
He also won the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg and on three occasions has been named German Football Manager of the Year.
