Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus has characterized his transition to Danish club FC Nordsjælland as a significant progression in his career and an invaluable learning opportunity.
Having started his journey with home-town club Strong Tower in Ghana at the age of 10 and Right to Dream Academy in Ghana, he caught the eye of scouts in Europe in his later teenage years, then joined Danish club Nordsjaelland at the age of 18 before earning his move to Ajax.
Reflecting on his journey in an interview with West Ham United media subsequent to his transfer from Ajax, the 23-year-old acknowledged his first European transfer to Nordsjælland as a pivotal learning phase.
“Yeah, I think for me, a player from Africa, I think it was a good step for me because I didn’t want to take big steps because I think I needed time to learn a lot of stuff because it’s a whole different culture in Europe, compared to Africa, so it was a good step and learning experience for me. I was there for two seasons, and then boom, to Ajax!”
Kudus’s time with FC Nordsjælland was highlighted by his standout performance in the 2019/20 Superliga, during which he secured 11 goals in his second full season.
This impressive display earned him a transfer to Ajax. Nonetheless, he faced initial challenges in finding his stride at the esteemed Dutch club.
