FIFA has imposed a registration ban on Tanzanian football club, Young Africans SC (Yanga), due to non-compliance with financial obligations owed to former player Wontah Hafiz Konkoni.
The ban, which prohibits the club from registering new players internationally, was communicated in a letter dated October 17, 2024.
According to the letter signed by FIFA’s Head of Disciplinary, Americo Espallargas, Yanga SC has failed to fulfill the payment due to Konkoni as outlined in a previous FIFA decision (Ref. FPSD-15150). The ban will remain in effect until the outstanding amount is fully paid, for a maximum duration of three consecutive registration periods.
If the club does not meet its payment obligations within this period, Konkoni may request additional sanctions from FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee, including an extension of the ban. Furthermore, the Tanzania Football Federation has been instructed to ensure the club is also banned from registering players at the national level if it has not already done so.
This move adds significant pressure on Yanga SC, who must settle the debt to avoid further sanctions that could hinder their ability to compete effectively.
