Former Ghana youth star, Eric Ayiah, scored his debut goal for CD Trofense in a match against Sanjoanense over the weekend.

Despite his goal, Trofense succumbed to a 3-2 away defeat to Sanjoanense in week 10 of the Portuguese third-tier league.

The first half of the game ended in a pulsating goalless draw, with both teams struggling to find the back of the net. Ayiah broke the deadlock for the visitors from the penalty spot seven minutes into the second half.

Portugal international Bernardo Fontes scored to draw Sanjoanense level in the 69th minute, while Pedro Martins scored to put the home team in front in the 82nd minute. Trofense fought back to draw level through Nuno Jorge Pereira da Silva Valente in the 86th minute, but Sanjoanense secured the match winner in added time through Daniel Santos.

After the game, Ayiah expressed his joy on social media and set his sights on scoring more goals for the club, saying, “Determination always leads to success. Together as a team as always and will always be. First of many goals to come.”

The 23-year-old Ghanaian forward has now scored one goal in three games for Trofense in the Portuguese third-tier. Ayiah joined Trofense in October 2023, signing a contract that will keep him at the club until 2025.
