Renowned football coach Michael Osei, known for his successful tenures at Asante Kotoko SC and Bibiani Gold Stars, has recently disclosed that he threw his hat into the ring for the position of Ghana’s head coach.
This revelation follows the announcement by the country’s football governing body on January 25, forming a five-member committee to spearhead the quest for a new leader for the Black Stars.
The decision to seek a new head coach arose after Ghana and former coach Chris Hughton parted ways, following a less-than-ideal performance in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast. The Black Stars, unfortunately, bid farewell to the tournament with just two points from three games.
Speaking about his application, Osei shared, “We have gathered enough experience until now,” emphasizing the wealth of knowledge he brings to the table. This seasoned coach recently concluded an impressive two-season stint with Bibiani GoldStars SC, achieving commendable 9th and 5th positions in the fiercely competitive 2021-22 and 2022-23 Ghana Premier League seasons, respectively.
The German-trained tactician’s managerial prowess is not limited to his recent successes; his rich experience encompasses previous roles at New Edubiase United FC, Liberty Professionals, Star Madrid, and notably, a significant spell with Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC. Osei’s journey in Ghanaian football also extended to the national stage, where he served as an Assistant for the Black Meteors.
His application represents a compelling candidacy, shaped by years of dedication and success at various levels of the sport. As the search committee delves into the selection process, Osei’s name adds a significant layer of experience and accomplishment to the pool of potential candidates.
