Jerry Afriyie has earned a spot in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
The talented forward made a memorable start to his international career, scoring on his Black Stars debut against Niger. Now, he is poised to play a crucial role in Ghana’s quest for World Cup qualification.
Afriyie’s rise has been remarkable. After progressing from the lower divisions of Ghanaian football, he secured a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah FC before being loaned to Spanish club CD Lugo.
At just 18 years old, he has made an immediate impact in Spain, recently scoring a brace for Lugo, further showcasing his sharp form ahead of the qualifiers.
Following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the inclusion of in-form young talents like Afriyie adds a fresh attacking dimension to Otto Addo’s squad.
The Black Stars will take on Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on March 21 before traveling to Morocco for a crucial match against Madagascar on March 24.
Afriyie will be eager to build on his impressive performances and make a significant contribution as Ghana pushes to secure a place in the 2026 World Cup.
