The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially announced that Jordan Ayew will captain the Black Stars for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
The Leicester City forward will wear the armband in the absence of his older brother, André Ayew, who has not been included in the squad.
This confirmation aligns with earlier reports indicating that Ayew would assume the captaincy after vice-captain Thomas Partey declined the role.
The Arsenal midfielder, who previously served as André Ayew’s deputy, has opted out of any leadership responsibilities within the team.
With the Black Stars looking to recover from their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, these qualifiers are seen as a crucial test for the squad.
A pivotal figure in the national team, Ayew will lead Ghana’s efforts to secure maximum points as they push for a place in the 2026 World Cup.
Ghana will take on Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, before traveling to Morocco for a crucial clash against Madagascar on Monday, March 24.
The Black Stars currently occupy second place in Group I with nine points, level with group leaders Comoros.
