According to Oyerepa FM, former Hearts of Oak defender Caleb Amankwah has secured a one-year deal with Ethiopian side Commercial Bank FC.
The 25-year-old is set to undergo a medical examination this week before the official announcement of his transfer.
Amankwah’s move to Commercial Bank FC comes as a free transfer after parting ways with Hearts of Oak. His contract with the Ghanaian club expired in May of this year, and despite the club’s efforts for a contract renewal, he opted to leave.
During his time at Hearts of Oak, Amankwah played a pivotal role, contributing significantly to the team’s performance in the recently concluded league season, despite the club’s overall struggles.
As a defender, he featured in over 20 matches for the former Ghana Premier League champions and impressively netted four goals.
Amankwah joined Hearts of Oak as a free transfer in the second half of the 2020/21 season after leaving Aduana Stars. During his tenure with the club, he achieved notable successes, including winning the Ghana Premier League, FA Cup twice, and the President’s Cup.
Commercial Bank FC, founded in 1982 by the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, will be Amankwah’s new team. The club was previously known as Banks Sport Club before being renamed Commercial Bank of Ethiopia Sports Association in 2010.
In the 2020/21 league season, Commercial Bank FC played in the Ethiopian League I and progressed to the Ethiopian Higher League. Although they made their debut in the 2021/22 season after a lengthy absence from the Ethiopian Higher League, they narrowly missed qualifying for the Premier League, finishing as runners-up to Ethio Electric.
