Former Asante Kotoko winger Francis Akwafo has expressed his satisfaction with the club’s recruitment strategy during the ongoing transfer window, highlighting it as one of their best in recent years.
After a disappointing season that saw Kotoko finish sixth in the Ghana Premier League, the club has undertaken a significant overhaul of their squad. Over 20 players have been released, while twelve new signings—many of whom are established top-flight players—have been brought in to bolster the team.
In an interview with Kessben FM, Akwafo commended Kotoko for their smart signings this window, particularly in comparison to last season.
“Kotoko have made the best signings this window compared to last season. The players brought in are experienced, have made names for themselves, and are mature. We’ve also added some quality foreign players. Overall, I’d say this season’s recruitment is much better than the last,” Akwafo remarked.
Reflecting on Kotoko’s recent performance in the Democracy Cup against Hearts of Oak, Akwafo noted the maturity and skill of the new recruits. “I watched them play against Hearts of Oak, and I realized these players are mature and know how to play. It’s just a matter of them getting to know each other well, and they’ll be ready to go.”
Asante Kotoko is currently in the midst of pre-season preparations, with a notable friendly match against Bibiani Gold Stars scheduled for Wednesday, August 21, at the Cape Coast Stadium.
