Ghanaian attacker Pierre Ekwah has revealed his ambitions and goals at English Championship side Sunderland AFC.
The youngster scored a brace for the Red, White and Black outfit as they beat Sunderland the Saints 5-0 in their weekend’s clash.
According to him, he aims at helping the club to achieve it goals and also help take the club to where it belongs.
“I’m definitely pushing through to get Sunderland where they need to be.”
He said: “I’m definitely going to dispute that [if it goes down as an own-goal]. I’m definitely going to claim it!
Ekwah’s second goal came on the stroke of half-time after he cut out a loose pass from Saints’ on-loan Everton defender Mason Holgate and worked a shooting chance 25 yards out before sending his left-foot effort into the bottom right-hand corner. After scoring two long-range efforts, the Sunderland fans urged him to shoot whenever he picked up the ball around the box.
“Sometimes I’m like ‘slow down, I can’t shoot from that far'”, he grinned. “It just shows they are believing in my shot which is good and they believe in me like I believe in myself.
“Hearing them, sometimes I shoot from there and on Saturday I did which was nice. From the first day I came in the gaffer said to me you need to score from long distance, we need to have more shots from long distance”.
“It’s definitely been the aim since I came here.”
After the game, Mowbray said he sometimes gives Ekwah a hard time, trying to help him improve and realise his undoubted talent by being more physical, but the youngster has no problem with being on the end of a constant stream of instructions. He said: “The gaffer can keep shouting at me and I will definitely keep doing what he asks me to do, and on Saturday it worked out.
“It [more physicality] is definitely something that I need to add to my game, and game by game I feel I’m getting better here. The gaffer is telling me I’m getting better at it.
“It’s definitely something we keep working on and on Saturday it was good.”
