French-Born Ghanaian forward Pierre Ekwah says he’s happy to stay in England with Championship side Sunderland AFC despite keen interest from other clubs.
He was on the verge of joining Germany Bundesliga side VFL Stuttgart only for the deal to fall through on transfer deadline.
Pierre Ekwah has shrugged off transfer talk to insist he is happy at Sunderland and focused on helping the Black Cats mount a promotion challenge.
Sunderland turned down an approach from Bundesliga side Stuttgart for Ekwah last week, and boss Tony Mowbray said that the phone rang on deadline day with more interest in the French midfielder.
But the Black Cats had no intention of letting the 21-year-old Frenchman leave, having only brought him to Wearside in January from West Ham, and now the window is shut there should be no further distractions – at least until the New Year.
And Ekwah showed he is getting on with the job in hand as he scored twice in Sunderland’s 5-0 demolition of Southampton at the Stadium of Light.
Asked about the transfer situation, Ekwah said: “It’s just the transfer window, it could get active, but definitely everyone is happy to be here and showed on Saturday [against Southampton] that they want to be here. I feel good here, that’s why I’m still here and you can see that.
