Isaac Opoku Agyemang, the former Ashantigold striker, has opened up about how the Ghana Football Association’s decision to ban players allegedly involved in the match-fixing scandal against Inter Allies had a detrimental effect on his career.
In 2021, Agyemang had an opportunity to join Serbian giants Partizan Belgrade. However, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) refused to release his International Transfer Certificate (ITC), ultimately leading to the collapse of the move.
After a lengthy investigation by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the ban imposed on Opoku Agyemang and twenty other players was upheld.
The outcome of CAS’s finding has left Agyemang feeling saddened, as his dream move was halted by the FA’s actions. Speaking to Oyerepa FM, he expressed his disappointment, saying, “It is good we have been exonerated but it is not a good news for me”
“In 2021,I had a foreign deal in Serbia and signed for Partizan Belgrade but the GFA refused to release my ITC. The deal would have fetched me $5,000 a month as salary,” he added.
Despite the difficulties he faced, Opoku Agyemang continued his career with Ghana Premier League side Samartex last season.
