Real Tamale United (RTU) is under scrutiny by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for an alleged player impersonation incident during their Ghana Premier League match against Dreams FC.
The investigation was launched after RTU used unregistered players in the game, while the first-team players protested by boycotting the match due to unpaid salaries and benefits.
The controversy deepened when it was discovered that the team sheet included names of first-team players who did not travel with the team to Dawu, raising suspicions of impersonation.
As a result, RTU has been charged with breaching Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019. The GFA has condemned RTU’s actions, stating that they have tarnished the reputation of the sport with their violation of league regulations.
Dreams FC emerged victorious with an 8-1 win, with five goals coming from Agyenim Boateng Mensah. RTU, who had already been relegated from the Ghanaian Premier League, now faces further scrutiny and potential sanctions from the GFA.
The incident has shed light on the larger issues at RTU, including the ongoing problems of unpaid salaries and benefits that have plagued the club.
