Ghana national football team have boosted their technical team with the appointment of seasoned American-Portuguese coach Daniel Gaspar as the new goalkeepers’ trainer for the Black Stars.
Gaspar joins the backroom staff of newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz, continuing a professional partnership that spans more than 30 years. The two have worked together across various roles since 1992, building a long-standing collaboration in both club and international football.
The experienced goalkeeping specialist brings a wealth of knowledge from a distinguished coaching career. He previously worked with the Portuguese national team setup in the early 1990s and later returned between 2009 and 2010, contributing to youth national teams.
Gaspar’s resume also includes coaching roles with the South African national team and several prominent clubs such as Sporting CP, Nagoya Grampus Eight, and the NY/NJ MetroStars. In 2003, he served as goalkeeping coach for Portugal under Luiz Felipe Scolari and later worked with José Antonio Camacho at Benfica.
He reunited with Queiroz in 2011 at the Iran national football team, where he played a key role in the team’s qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and their participation in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup—highlighting the effectiveness of their partnership.
More recently, Gaspar has worked with Hartford Athletic in the United States, adding further international depth to his coaching portfolio.
His arrival is expected to significantly strengthen Ghana’s goalkeeping department as the Black Stars prepare for upcoming international fixtures and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
