Former Ghana Football Association Vice President, George Afriyie, believes the Black Stars have every chance of overcoming their opponents at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana has been placed in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama for the global showpiece, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Despite the strength of the group, Afriyie remains optimistic about Ghana’s prospects.
Speaking on Asempa FM, he admitted that the three opponents are quality sides but stressed that none of them are beyond the Black Stars. According to him, with the right preparation and mindset, Ghana can record positive results against England, Croatia and Panama.
Afriyie further highlighted the need for the national team to engage in top-level friendly matches before the tournament, explaining that such encounters will help the players gain experience and sharpen their readiness for the World Cup.
Ghana will open their group campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before facing England on June 23 in Boston. The Black Stars will round off the group stage with a clash against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
After failing to progress beyond the group stage in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2022 tournament in Qatar, Ghana will be eager to make a stronger impression and go further in the 2026 edition.
