The Ghana Football Association has confirmed banning thirteen (13) players who played for Inter Allies in the match of convenience with Ashantigold at the end of the 2021/2022 season for their roles in the match fixing scandal.
Four players, namely; Mohammed Zakari, Richard Acquaah, Shaibu Taufiq and Felix Abuska have each received 24 month bans for their involvement in the said game.
Five other players including Danso Wiredu Mensah (goalkeeper), Alex Aso, Abdul Kadir Mohammed, Isah Ali – Player, Andy Okpe, were also banned for failing to appear before the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee for 24 months.
Hashmin Musah, the defender who scored two bizared own goals to spoil the fixed result was given a reduced 6-month ban for his whistle blower role, while Richmond Lamptey, who now plays for Asante Kotoko, was given a 30-month ban for attempting to stake a bet on the fixed result.
The match in ended 7-0 in favour of AshGold with Inter Allies defender, Hashmin Musah scoring two own goals in the process after getting to know the correct score of the game before Kickoff.
After the game, the defender confirmed in a radio interview that his own goals were scored deliberately to scupper a 5-1 bet that some people had placed on the match.
Both clubs have been demoted to Ghana’s Division Two, the country’s 3rd tier league, and each fined Ghs 100,000.
