Asante Kotoko relinquished their position at the summit of the Ghana Premier League after being held to a goalless draw by Young Apostles at the Wenchi Sports Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
In a closely contested encounter, both teams shared possession evenly, but clear goal-scoring opportunities were scarce. Eager to bounce back from their 1-1 draw with Samartex last Saturday, Kotoko struggled to break through Young Apostles’ well-organized defense.
The home side made their stadium a fortress, standing resolute against the record Ghanaian champions. While they largely focused on defensive solidity, they also posed occasional threats on the counterattack, though neither team managed to find the back of the net.
Despite the lack of goals, the match provided an engaging tactical battle, with both sides demonstrating discipline and determination. Kotoko pushed forward in the latter stages in search of a decisive goal, but Young Apostles held firm to secure a valuable point.
With this result, Kotoko slip from the top of the table, while Young Apostles extend their unbeaten run to two matches and currently sit 10th in the standings. The Porcupine Warriors will now look for a strong response in their next fixture to stay in the title race.
