Hearts of Oak made a quick recovery from their recent slump in the Ghana Premier League by defeating Nations FC at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday evening.
The Phobians returned to winning ways with two quick first-half goals, securing a 2-0 victory over the newly-promoted side in the matchday 32 fixture and ending their back-to-back losses.
This crucial win helps Hearts in their relegation battle, moving them five points clear of the danger zone on the league standings.
The club’s top scorer this season, Hamza Issah, and Ivorian import Kassim Cisse scored within seven minutes to earn the Phobians maximum points. Cisse opened the scoring in the 7th minute, connecting a beautiful cross from left-back Dennis Nkrumah Korsah.
The Rainbow club doubled their advantage shortly after, with Hamza securing his 14th goal of the campaign following a pass from Congolese midfielder Linda Mtange.
Nations FC’s hopes for the premiership title faded with this defeat. They have now lost their last five away matches without scoring a goal. Kassim Mingle Ocansey’s team is trailing league leaders FC Samartex 1996 by seven points with only two games left in the season.
