1. Aduana Stars records first win of the season
Yaw Joachim Acheampong, the head coach of Aduana Stars has been under immense pressure lately. Everyone at the club has shivered becasue results have been very abysmal. The Ogya Boys recorded their first win of the season and the first in their last 9 games spanning from last season. Aduana has been struggling recently and even their Nana Agyeman Badu Stadium has lost its fearfulness. It was a must win fixture between two winless teams on Sunday afternoon: Aduana Stars v Dreams FC. Emmanuel Marfo and Aboubakar Adams’ second half goals helped the Dormaa-Ahenkro club secured an important 2-0 win over Still Believe to calm the tension and fears down. Yaw Acheampong has promised a turn around for the club and the fans expect it too soon.
2. Hamza Issah strikes late to secure win for Phobia
Martinus Koopman likened the young Hamza Issah to the former Brazillian super star Romario. Many laughed and thought Koopman was exaggerating. Performances from the Auroras Academy graduate have been so sensational since he got the opportunity to lead the attack under the Dutch manager. Issah led Phobia to an incredible win in Wenchi and the Phobia fraternity will hope he will continue with the good start to the season.
3. Bibiani Gold Stars tops the table
The Bibiani-based club is famously known for Grade A home performances but have started picking up important points away from home. In the three away games played so far in the season; against Heart of Lions, Samartex and Nations, the games have ended in draws. Frimpong Manso’s Gold Stars needed an exceptional performance at DR Kwame Kyei Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon and did so to win something. Kelvin Oppong’s 80th minute strike stunned Nations FC as it helped Bibiani Gold Stars snatched a 1-1 draw. Too early to talk about title challenge from Frimpong Manso and his team but they are doing well and aren’t on top by fluke.
4. The signs were clear that Dreams FC was going to struggle
Losing you best attackers in one transfer window will always put you in danger. Karim Zito lost Abdul Aziz Issah, Agyenim Boateng Mensah and John Antwi in the just ended transfer window. The trio made Dreams fearful but their departure has made the Still Believe very ordinary. With just 2 goals scored in 6 games, Karim Zito needs a bona-fide goals scorer to help the club fight relegation. Dreams sit comfortably in the relegation zone and must start scoring and winning points.
5. Stephen Amankonah scores first goal of the season for Berekum Chelsea
The 24-year-old former Asante Kotoko forward scored 19 goals in 29 games for Berekum Chelsea and won the top scorer award last season. His form towards the end of the 2023-24 season was splendid with many tipping him to be the star man for this season. The road had been rough for him in his first four games but on Sunday against Accra Lions, Amankonah opened his scoring for the season with 60th minute strike to help Samuel Boadu’s Chelsea record a 1-1 draw against Accra Lions. The head coach will hope his star man will continue from there to help them achieve their aim of finishing in the top 4.
