French-born Ghanaian defender Dennis Appiah played a pivotal role in Saint-Etienne’s 2-0 victory over Rodez in Ligue 2 on Friday evening, securing their position in the elite promotion play-offs.

Despite Rodez’s advantageous pre-match head-to-head record, boasting two wins and two draws against Saint-Etienne, the home team dominated the match. Appiah entered the game in the 77th minute, substituting for Yvann Maçon at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard. Saint-Etienne had controlled much of the game, maintaining superior possession and creating more scoring opportunities.

Their efforts bore fruit in the 64th minute when Irvin Cardona skillfully headed in a precise cross from Dylan Chambost. As the match neared its conclusion, Saint-Etienne aimed to secure their lead. In the 90th minute, Nathanaël Mbuku embarked on an impressive solo run, finishing confidently. Appiah’s involvement was crucial, as he provided the assist that set up the goal.

This 2-0 win capped off an impressive performance by Saint-Etienne, with Appiah’s contributions standing out. Over the season, he has made 33 appearances and provided two assists in Ligue 2, showcasing his importance to the team.
