Ghanaian forward Godsway Donyoh demonstrated his scoring prowess for Apollon Limassol as they secured a 2-1 victory against Paphos FC in a significant pre-season friendly on Sunday, leading up to the impending new season.
Donyoh, a product of the Right to Dream Academy, showcased his skills at the Alphamega Stadium in Kollosi, Cyprus, netting both goals that propelled Apollon to triumph over their Cypriot rivals.
In the 60th minute, Donyoh broke the deadlock by calmly converting a penalty kick to give Apollon the lead. He continued to make an impact by adding another goal shortly thereafter, further solidifying Apollon’s advantage. Paphos FC managed to pull one back in the 72nd minute, with Czech defender Josef Kvida finding the net for the consolation goal.
Ghanaian attacker Patrick Twumasi made his debut for Paphos, entering the match in the 82nd minute to replace Colombian player Jeisson Palacios.
Apollon’s pre-season journey will culminate in a final friendly against Italian champions Napoli just four days later, providing a formidable test before their 2023-24 campaign commences on August 19.
Donyoh’s association with Apollon began in the winter transfer window, as he arrived from Azerbaijani club Neftchi Baku. His performance in the Cypriot championship was notable, tallying three goals in 13 appearances by the close of the 2022-23 season.
