Hamburger SV marked their return to the Bundesliga in emphatic fashion with a thumping 6-1 victory over Ulm at a packed and jubilant Volksparkstadion on Saturday evening.
Ghanaian forward Ransford Yeboah Königsdörffer was the standout performer on the night, netting twice in a dominant attacking display that thrilled the home supporters.
Despite an early setback when Tom Gaal put Ulm ahead with a close-range strike, HSV responded swiftly. Ludovit Reis equalized in the 10th minute with a superb strike from distance, before Königsdörffer put Hamburg in front with a thunderous effort in the 42nd minute. Davie Selke then extended the lead just before halftime, giving the hosts a comfortable 3-1 cushion.
Hamburg maintained their intensity after the break. A bizarre own goal by Philipp Strompf gifted HSV a fourth, and Königsdörffer struck again in the 62nd minute with another long-range goal to cap a brilliant individual performance. Daniel Elfadli rounded off the scoring late on to seal a commanding victory.
Königsdörffer, who was substituted in the 69th minute to a standing ovation, played a pivotal role in a memorable win that not only sealed Hamburg’s promotion but also ended their season on the highest of notes.
