Ghanaian goalkeeper Joseph Anang was named Man of the Match after a standout display in St Patrick’s Athletic’s goalless draw against Shelbourne in the Irish Premier League on Friday.
The former West Ham United shot-stopper delivered a commanding performance between the sticks, earning a match rating of 7.7. Anang made five vital saves across both halves to ensure the visitors walked away without a goal.
Anang has been a key figure for Stephen Kenny’s side this season, featuring in all eight league matches so far. He has kept five clean sheets and conceded just seven goals, underlining his consistency and importance to the team.
This marks the 24-year-old’s third stint with the Dublin-based club. He rejoined St Patrick’s Athletic in July 2024 on a permanent deal after his contract with English side West Ham United expired, bringing an end to a seven-year spell with the Hammers.
Anang previously had a loan spell with the Saints during the 2021/22 season before returning to West Ham, where he continued his development with the U23 squad. He was also part of the senior team that won the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2023.
Born in Teshie, Ghana, Anang remains eligible to represent the Black Stars at senior level, despite featuring for England’s U20 national team in 2019.
