Bristol City striker Antoine Semenyo has been named the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for January.
The young striker has long been touted as an explosive talent waiting to burst into life, beat competition from Blackpool goalkeeper Dan Grimshaw, Fulham goal-machine Aleksandar Mitrovic and Queens Park Rangers and attacking midfielder Chris Willock to win the award.
The Ghanaian forward scored three goals and three assists, courtesy of pacy direct running, vision, skill and finishing during the period of January.
Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson said: “Antoine has made great progress and a real contribution to the collective effort. Everyone at the club is proud of him for winning this award.
“He is a real threat with his power and pace – he must be a nightmare to play against! His challenge now is to keep developing and adding elements to his game to make him even more effective.”
Semenyo said: “It was a great honour to be nominated in the first place and to win the award is very special.
“Our performances have improved since the New Year and credit to all the players and staff – we are definitely heading in the right direction.
“I’ve just got to keep working hard for the team and doing my job.”
Meanwhile, Semenyo, 22, has declared his readiness to play for the Black Stars in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup play-offs against Nigeria next month.
The speedster has scored five goals and provided six assists for Bristol City this campaign.
