Ghanaian midfielder Majeed Ashimeru reached a significant milestone, celebrating his centenary appearance for Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht in their commanding victory against Cercle Brugge on Thursday night.
The 26-year-old, entering the game late to replace Mario Stroeykens, contributed to the Purple and White’s impressive 2-0 win, concluding the first round of the First Division A league on a positive note.
Anders Dreyer opened the scoring for the hosts within the first ten minutes, with Luis Vazquez securing the victory early in the second half. Anderlecht now heads into the break trailing league leaders Union Saint-Gilloise by six points.
Having sealed a permanent deal with Anderlecht in 2021, Ashimeru has evolved into a crucial component of the team. In the current season, the former Red Bull Salzburg star has made nine appearances across all competitions for the club.
The hardworking midfielder not only achieved this milestone but also finds himself named in Ghana’s provisional squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast next month.
Ashimeru is scheduled to return to Ghana this weekend as preparations commence on Sunday, December 31.
