AZ Alkmaar has announced that 15-year-old Ghanaian youngster Jahmael Ampofo has signed his first professional contract with the club until mid-2027.
The talented winger, who played his first season with the team last year, has made a big impression in his short time at AZ.
Ampofo, who joined the club from amateur club ASC Waterwijk from Almere, quickly established himself as a regular player in the AZ Under 15 side. He was even named player of the tournament during the U15 Kolping International Cup, where AZ finished in third place.
The young attacker is excited to have signed his first contract and is looking forward to the new season. “I am very happy and grateful that this is happening now,” he said. “I want to score more goals and give more assists than last season. I want to be important for my team every game. Furthermore, I want to end up at AZ1 as soon as possible.”
AZ’s Head of Youth Development, Paul Brandenburg, is also pleased with the signing of Ampofo. “Jahmael made a big impression at AZ in one season. He is a winger with a lot of speed, has scoring ability and can put his teammates in front of the keeper. Jahmael is a winger of the future who can play between the lines, but also has depth. In addition to his qualities on the field, he also has a fantastic mentality. He always gives one hundred percent and the way he experiences top sport is an example for many.”
