Football enthusiasts in Ghana are fervently calling for the inclusion of Richmond Lamptey in the Black Stars squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Asante Kotoko midfielder showcased his brilliance in a remarkable performance during the matchday 14 clash against Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium in the ongoing 2023/24 Ghana Premier League.

Formerly associated with Inter Allies, Lamptey’s exceptional passing skills were on full display as the Porcupine Warriors fought back to secure a 3-2 victory. Steven Mukwala netted a brace, and Isaac Oppong also contributed a goal for Kotoko.

Known for his consistent performances in the Ghana Premier League over several seasons, Lamptey’s stellar display ignited a wave of sentiments on social media, with fans urging Black Stars coach Chris Hughton to extend an invitation to the midfielder for the upcoming AFCON tournament scheduled to be hosted in Ivory Coast next year.

Any of Richmond Lamptey or Salifu Ibrahim must replace the automatic spot of Edmund Addo in the Black Stars at Afcon 2023 squad. pic.twitter.com/J3FZAYy31l

Any meaningful thing Kotoko does on the pitch must involve Richmond Lamptey. He is a craft. Lamptey for Black starspic.twitter.com/vegkHV88Um

Though a Hearts of Oak fan,I find this Richmond Lamptey chap such an intelligent midfielder with incredible passing range. He deserves a Black Stars call up. pic.twitter.com/xB2KH3x4fi

Given the Black Stars' issues in centre midfield, is there any reason why there isn't a big push for Richmond Lamptey to get a look in? Clearly the most talented midfielder in the GPL in my opinion & has some good positional versatility…

Everyone is talking about Richmond Lamptey and why he deserves a consideration for a call up into the Black stars of Ghana, I think it’s a genuine call. pic.twitter.com/LNT5G8HyRy
