Ghanaian striker Inaki Williams captained Athletic Bilbao in their La Liga season opener, leading his team to a 1-1 draw against Getafe.
Inaki, who has been named the club’s vice-captain for the season, played the entire match, showcasing his leadership and composure on the field.
Athletic Bilbao took an early lead through Oihan Sancet, who scored just before the 30-minute mark. However, Getafe equalized in the second half when Chrisantus Uche, who had missed a crucial opportunity earlier, found the back of the net.
Despite pushing for a late winner, including a near-miss by Inaki’s younger brother Nico Williams, Bilbao was unable to secure victory. Nico, who has drawn interest from top clubs such as Barcelona, came on as a substitute in the 72nd minute and made an immediate impact but was denied a last-minute goal by Getafe’s goalkeeper, David Soria.
Looking ahead, Athletic Bilbao will take on Barcelona on August 24th, with both Williams brothers eager to make their mark.
