Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has emphasized the crucial role of confidence within the team as the Gunners aim to challenge Europe’s elite clubs this season.
Partey’s comments follow Arsenal’s narrow miss of the English Premier League title last season, where they finished just two points behind Manchester City. Reflecting on Arsenal’s exhilarating 5-4 penalty shootout victory over AFC Bournemouth, Partey stressed the importance of self-belief for competing at the highest level.
“I think the confidence is always there. We are there to compete with the best and we know we need to get the best out of ourselves to be able to compete. We have to compete against each other and then, at the end of the day, we will be able to compete against the other teams,” Partey stated.
In Arsenal’s recent preseason encounter, Partey played a key role as his team triumphed over Bournemouth in a thrilling shootout. Despite Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo scoring through a deflected shot, Arsenal’s determination proved decisive in the penalties.
Partey, who missed the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for Ghana due to injuries last season, is eager to make a significant impact this year. He is focused on moving past last season’s challenges and contributing to Arsenal’s pursuit of trophies.
The midfielder’s emphasis on confidence and teamwork mirrors Arsenal’s broader strategy to build on last season’s promising performance and vie for top honors both domestically and in Europe.
