Gideon Mensah, the left-back for the Black Stars, has shared his excitement following his return from injury during AJ Auxerre’s Ligue 1 match against Brest on Saturday. After being sidelined for 72 days due to an injury, Mensah missed crucial games, including Ghana’s World Cup qualifiers in June and the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September.
Mensah made his first appearance of the season when he came on for Clement Akpa after the hour mark, contributing to Auxerre’s impressive 3-0 victory. Following the match, he expressed his joy on social media, stating, “72 days later.”
Since joining the club after the conclusion of his loan with Girondins Bordeaux in 2022, Mensah has been an essential player for Auxerre.
In a thrilling match at Stade de l’Abbe-Deschamps, Mensah’s teammate from the national team, Elisha Owusu, opened the scoring with a remarkable goal. Jubal then extended the lead before halftime, and Hamed Junior Traoré capped off the victory in the second half with a goal assisted by Owusu. Mensah’s return to the pitch is a significant boost for the Black Stars as they prepare for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in October.
